Apollo Med Tech

From idea to MVP: a patient-controlled health-data wallet.

ApolloMed Tech began as the final project of my degree and grew into an initiative with a product, architecture, brand, business plan and competition experience. Its aim was to give patients explicit control over who could see their health records.

The team completed and demonstrated the MVP, presented the project at FISTA and Junior Achievement Portugal, and received recognition in both programmes. That stage concluded after the competitions, while the underlying problem continued to shape my academic work.

My role

Project Manager and technical contributor.

I led the planning and coordination of a six-person team. Alongside that role, I developed important parts of the Go solution: the web application, microservices, authentication and sessions, application integration with the Fabric network, and the administration interface.

The solution was built by a multidisciplinary team covering project management, architecture, business, development, finance and marketing. This page separates my contribution without claiming the work of the other team members.

The challenge

Sharing records without taking control away from the patient.

Health records are often spread across different institutions and systems. Apollo proposed a way for patients to see their history, receive access requests from healthcare professionals, and approve, reject or revoke that access.

My contribution

Delivery leadership with direct product development.

Planning and coordination

I organised the work, followed objectives and deliveries, and represented the project during presentations.

Web application

I worked on patient, professional and administrator journeys, including authentication, profiles, access and records.

Backend and integration

I developed access and refresh token authentication, Go microservices and integration between the application and the Fabric network.

Reusable components

I created and evolved shared middleware for configuration, database access, localisation, logging, templates, requests and alerts.

ApolloMed Tech moved beyond a degree assignment: the team built a web and mobile MVP, defined its architecture and business model, and presented the solution in two external programmes where it received recognition.

Continuation

The problem evolved into my dissertation.

The control, security and interoperability of health data remained important to me and influenced my master’s dissertation: “Secure Storage and Management of Medical Imaging in a Patient Wallet Using European Interoperability Standards.”
