BaluLabs · Personal environment
Outside work, I use BaluLabs to practise deploying, monitoring, updating and recovering services. It is a personal environment, not enterprise production.
High-level environment
Proxmox hosts Linux VMs and LXC containers. I run services with Docker and Portainer, use Traefik for access and TLS, and keep storage and backups on a Synology NAS.
I check monitoring, document changes, plan updates and keep recovery steps for the services I run.
Maintenance
I keep update and recovery steps for the services I run.
Runbooks record what changed and what to check when a service fails.
A Synology NAS provides central storage and backups for the lab.
I review alerts and metrics before changing a service.
Before publishing anything from the lab, I remove hostnames, IP addresses, credentials, live topology and service-specific configuration.
